Subtitled: “Live them and reach your potential”
John Maxwell is an icon in the leadership industry – and for good reason. His approach to leadership and teaching make his lessons easy to understand and apply to our own lives and careers.
This book follows that approach, just like his other bestselling books.
He covers 15 laws which are key to reaching our potential. Here are a few examples:
- The law of the mirror: being able to see value in yourself to add value to yourself
- The law of pain: good management of bad experiences leads to great growth
- The law of expansion: growth always increases your capacity
Each law is a chapter and in each chapter he provides personal experiences, client experiences and lessons he’s learned from other leadership and personal growth experts.
This is a collection of his readings and experiences. Which is how quite a few non-fiction books take shape.
One of my favorites is Arete by Brian Johnson. It’s a great one to use as a daily reader – short, inspiring ideas to ponder with your coffee and put into practice that day.
The Maxwell book is also good for putting ideas into action. He’s great at encouraging the reader.
I guess what I find interesting is how I respond to the different types of non-fiction books. And I’d imagine this has a lot to do with where I am in my own personal & professional growth. Lately, I’ve been more inspired by books which have a slightly more academic approach. The ones which provide studies and research along with practical tips for implementing their ideas.
This doesn’t make any type better or worse or more effective. It’s all about finding what gets YOU inspired and taking action toward being your best self.
